What Is TQWL?
TQWL stands for Tatkal Quota Waitlist. When you book a Tatkal ticket and the Tatkal quota is already full, IRCTC assigns you a TQWL status — you are on the waitlist within the Tatkal booking pool.
Tatkal quota opens 1 day before departure (10 AM for non-AC, 11 AM for AC) and has only 10–15 seats per class. Once those fill up, subsequent Tatkal bookings go into TQWL.

Two reasons make TQWL especially hard:
- Small quota: Tatkal quota is only 10–15 seats per class. If you are TQWL 5, you need 5 of those 10–15 confirmed Tatkal passengers to cancel — which is uncommon.
- Low cancellation rate: Tatkal passengers pay a premium (₹100–₹400 extra) specifically because they need to travel urgently. They cancel far less often than regular quota passengers.

- GNWL: Large quota, most cancellations — best confirmation chances
- RLWL: Small remote-station quota — moderate chances
