How to Check Your IRCTC Refund Status
Whether you cancelled a ticket or your waitlisted ticket was auto-cancelled after chart preparation, here is how to track your refund.
Step-by-Step: Check Refund on IRCTC Website
- Log in to irctc.co.in with your IRCTC credentials.
- Go to My Account → My Transactions → Booked Ticket History.
- Find the cancelled ticket and click on it.
- The refund status will show as Refunded along with the transaction ID and amount.
If the refund is pending, it shows as Refund Initiated or Not Refunded.

Refund for Auto-Cancelled WL Tickets
When your waitlisted ticket is automatically cancelled after chart preparation, Indian Railways processes the refund within 3–5 working days. You do not need to apply separately — it happens automatically.
The refund amount for auto-cancelled WL tickets is the full ticket amount minus a small cancellation charge (₹60–₹240 depending on class).

Refund Not Received After 7 Days?
- Check IRCTC My Transactions to confirm the refund was initiated.
- Note the bank transaction reference number.
- Contact your bank with the reference number — bank processing delays are common.
- If the refund is not initiated on IRCTC, raise a complaint at care.irctc.co.in or call the IRCTC helpline: 14646.
Refund for TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt)
If your train was cancelled, severely delayed, or you could not board due to the train not stopping at your station, you can file a TDR within 72 hours. TDR refunds take 60–90 days. File through IRCTC My Transactions → File TDR.
