Yes โ€” PNR Status Is Public Information

You do not need an IRCTC account, login, or password to check PNR status. PNR status is publicly available โ€” you only need the 10-digit PNR number printed on your ticket. This is by design: family members, friends, and travel agents often need to check status for tickets they didn't book themselves.

How to Check PNR Without Login (Step by Step)

  1. Go to pnralert.in/pnr-status
  2. Enter your 10-digit PNR number (found on the IRCTC ticket, SMS, or email confirmation)
  3. Click "Check PNR Status"
  4. View your current status, coach/berth details (after chart), and train journey information

No account creation, no OTP, no app download. Results appear in under 3 seconds.

Where to Find Your PNR Number

Your 10-digit PNR is in these places:

  • IRCTC e-ticket PDF: Top-left corner, labelled "PNR No."
  • Booking SMS: IRCTC sends an SMS with the PNR number immediately after payment.
  • Email confirmation: Subject line and body contain the PNR.
  • IRCTC app: My Bookings โ†’ tap any ticket to see PNR.
  • Printed counter ticket: Top of the ticket, printed by the PRS machine.

  • WL โ€” Waitlisted. Ticket not yet confirmed. If still WL after chart preparation, e-ticket is auto-cancelled.
  • CAN โ€” Cancelled. Ticket was cancelled (by you or auto at chart). Refund already processed.
