How to Unlock Your IRCTC Account

IRCTC locks user accounts automatically when there are too many failed login attempts, suspicious activity, or inactivity. Here is how to get back in.

Method 1: Reset Password (Works for Most Cases)

  1. Go to irctc.co.in and click on Login
  2. Click Forgot Account Details
  3. Enter your User ID or registered email/mobile
  4. Choose OTP verification (SMS or email)
  5. Enter the OTP and set a new password
  6. Log in with your new password โ€” the account lock is cleared

Method 2: Wait for Auto-Unlock

If the lock is due to failed login attempts, IRCTC automatically unlocks the account after 30-60 minutes. You do not need to do anything โ€” just wait and try again.

Method 3: Contact IRCTC Customer Care

If your account is permanently locked or the above methods do not work:

  • Call IRCTC helpline: 14646
  • Raise a ticket at care.irctc.co.in
  • Email: care@irctc.co.in
  • Provide your User ID, registered email, and mobile number for verification

How to Prevent Future Lockouts

  • Save your password in a trusted password manager
  • Enable "Remember Me" on personal devices
  • Log in at least once every 90 days to prevent inactivity locks
