What Is Live Train Running Status?

Live train running status shows you the real-time location of any Indian Railways train — where it currently is, how many minutes late it is, and the expected arrival time (ETA) at every upcoming station.

This is different from PNR status (which shows your booking status). Train running status shows the train's physical location on the track, regardless of whether you have a ticket.

How Accurate Is the Live Train Status?

Live train running status data comes from NTES (National Train Enquiry System), the official Indian Railways tracking system. It is typically accurate within 5–15 minutes. Stations update the train's arrival and departure as it passes through.

For trains in remote areas or during disruptions, there may be a delay in updates — but the data is the same as what you would get calling 139 (Indian Railways enquiry).

How to Check Status for a Train That Started Yesterday

Long-distance trains like Rajdhani Express, Duronto Express, and many Mail/Express trains take 2–3 days to complete their journey. To check status for such trains:

  1. Go to Train Running Status
  2. Enter the train number
  3. Select Yesterday or 2 days ago as the journey start date
