You completed payment on IRCTC but the ticket is nowhere in your booking history. This is one of the most stressful experiences for rail passengers โ but in most cases, the booking did go through and the ticket is recoverable. Here is a step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Check Your Email and SMS First
IRCTC sends an automated booking confirmation to your registered email address and mobile number immediately after a successful booking. Search your inbox for "PNR" or "IRCTC" in the subject line. If you find a confirmation email, your ticket is booked โ the history display is just delayed.
Step 2: Check PNR Status Directly
If you have the PNR number from the confirmation email or SMS, check it at PNR Status. A valid PNR showing passenger details and seat allocation confirms the booking exists in the Railway system, regardless of what IRCTC's history shows.
Step 3: Check the Correct IRCTC Account
It is common to accidentally book under a different IRCTC account (especially if you have multiple accounts or used autofill). Log out and log back in with your other email IDs or mobile numbers to check.
Step 4: Wait 30โ60 Minutes and Refresh
During high-traffic periods, IRCTC's booking history can take up to an hour to sync. If you just booked during a Tatkal rush or a server-slow period, simply wait and refresh. Do not attempt to re-book the same ticket during this window โ you may end up with duplicate bookings.
Step 5: Download the Ticket
Once the booking appears in history, go to My Account โ Booked Ticket History โ Print ERS / Download. You can also forward the confirmation email to any printer for a hard copy.
If Money Was Deducted But No Ticket Anywhere
This is a failed transaction. IRCTC's backend will detect the discrepancy and trigger an automatic refund within 5โ7 working days. If it has been more than 10 days, raise a complaint at care@irctc.co.in with your transaction ID and bank reference number.
You can also use PNR Alert to track any PNR and get WhatsApp status notifications without logging into IRCTC.
