RLWL 1: Don't Be Fooled by Position 1
Being first in RLWL (Remote Location Waitlist) sounds reassuring, but RLWL draws from a much smaller pool of seats than GNWL. RLWL is allocated to passengers boarding from specific intermediate/remote stations โ and the quota for those stations is limited. Even RLWL 1 often doesn't confirm because:
- The RLWL quota may have only 2โ5 berths for that station
- Confirmation depends on confirmed passengers specifically in the RLWL quota cancelling โ not the entire train
- Remote stations tend to have fewer bookings and lower cancellation volumes
| Route type | RLWL 1 confirmation chance |
|---|---|
| Busy long-distance with high RLWL activity | 50โ65% |
| Moderate route | 38โ52% |
| Festival season | 20โ38% |
Recommendation: Keep a Tatkal or alternate train backup ready. RLWL 1 is not as safe as GNWL 1. Subscribe to WhatsApp PNR alerts to track movement.
