How to Buy a Platform Ticket at the Station

  1. Go to the Platform Ticket Counter or Unreserved Ticket Counter (UTC) at the station โ€” usually near the main entrance.
  2. Ask for a "Platform Ticket" for that station.
  3. Pay the price (โ‚น50 at major stations) โ€” cash or UPI accepted at most counters.
  4. Keep the ticket โ€” show it if asked at the gate or by railway staff.

How to Buy a Platform Ticket on the UTS App

  1. Download the UTS โ€” Unreserved Ticketing app (official Indian Railways app)
  2. Enable location โ€” you must be within 2 km of the station
  3. Select the station and choose Platform Ticket
  4. Pay via R-Wallet (UTS wallet, load โ‚น100+ before use) or linked payment method
  5. The ticket appears on the app โ€” show it if checked

Note: The UTS app doesn't work for platform tickets if you're far from the station โ€” this prevents remote buying for scalping.

Rules for Platform Ticket Use

  • Validity: 2 hours from time of issue. Not extendable.
  • Not for travel: A platform ticket does not allow you to board or travel on any train. If caught on a train with only a platform ticket, you're penalised as a ticketless traveller.
  • One person, one ticket: Each person entering the platform needs their own platform ticket.
  • Station-specific: Valid only at the station for which it was issued.
