IRCTC Booking Window: 120 Days Advance

Indian Railways allows booking 120 days before the travel date. This opens at 8:00 AM IST on the 120th day before departure. For maximum availability on popular trains, this is the time to book.

Example: If you want to travel on October 15, you can start booking from June 18 (120 days before) at 8 AM.

How to Book on Day 1 at 8 AM

  1. Login to IRCTC the night before — ensure your account and payment method are ready.
  2. Add all passengers to the Master List in advance (My Profile → Add Passenger).
  3. Set an alarm for 7:55 AM on Day 1.
  4. At 8:00 AM exactly, search for your train, select the date, and proceed to booking.
  5. Have UPI or iMudra wallet ready for fastest payment — credit/net banking are slower and risk timeout.

When Booking Early Isn't Possible

If you missed Day 1 and the train is fully booked or WL, options in order:

  1. Book WL and track: GNWL 1–20 often confirms. Subscribe to WhatsApp PNR alerts to track movement.
  2. Book Tatkal 1 day before: AC at 10 AM, SL at 11 AM. Be ready at 9:55 AM.
  3. Try alternate trains: Check all trains on that route — a different train an hour earlier/later may have availability.
  4. Current booking: Opens 4 hours before departure. Remaining seats from all quotas go here at standard fare.
