Berth Number Guide for Sleeper Class
In a Sleeper coach, each bay has 6 berths (3 on each side). The numbering pattern in each bay of 8:
- Lower berth: 1, 4, 7, 10... (multiples of 3 minus 2, roughly)
- Middle berth: 2, 5, 8, 11...
- Upper berth: 3, 6, 9, 12...
- Side Lower: 63, 65, 67, 69 (in a 72-berth coach)
- Side Upper: 64, 66, 68, 70
So S1/35 means Sleeper Coach 1, Berth 35 โ which is an upper berth in the middle of the coach. S1/63 would be a side-lower berth.
How to Find Your Coach at the Platform
Major stations have a Coach Position Indicator board near the platform entry showing which direction the engine is and where each coach (S1, S2, B1, etc.) will stop. Always walk to your coach's approximate position before the train arrives.
You can also check coach position online at pnralert.in/train-coach-position before leaving for the station.
