WL1 Confirmation Chances
WL1 (Waitlist 1) is the first person in the waitlist queue. This ticket almost always confirms β either to a full CNF berth or at minimum RAC status. The only exceptions are rare premium trains where every confirmed passenger holds their seat and no cancellations occur before chart.
If you have WL1, there is very little reason to book an alternative. Subscribe for WhatsApp alerts and you will know the moment it confirms.
WL2 and WL3 Confirmation Chances
WL2 and WL3 have a very high confirmation rate β nearly as good as WL1 on most routes. On busy corridors (DelhiβMumbai, DelhiβPatna, ChennaiβBangalore), WL2βWL3 in Sleeper class almost certainly confirms well before chart preparation.
WL4 and WL5 Confirmation Chances
WL5 is still a strong position on most trains. In Sleeper class, WL5 confirms the vast majority of the time. In 3AC or 2AC, WL5 is good but depends on the specific train. On Rajdhani or Shatabdi, even WL5 should be monitored.
WL6 to WL10 Confirmation Chances
- Sleeper class: WL6βWL10 has a high confirmation chance on most trains. These positions typically clear in the 48-hour window before departure.
- 3AC class: WL6βWL10 has a moderate chance. On a regular express, this often confirms. On a premium train like Rajdhani during peak season, it may not.
- 2AC class: WL6βWL10 is more uncertain due to fewer berths and lower cancellation rate. Keep a backup plan.
When Do WL1βWL10 Tickets Confirm?
There are three key windows when waitlist moves:
- 120β60 days before departure: Passengers cancel after seeing their plans change β small, steady movement.
- 48β24 hours before departure: The biggest wave of cancellations as passengers make final decisions. WL1βWL10 usually clears in this window.
- Chart preparation (4β6 hours before departure from origin): Emergency quota (5β30 berths depending on class) is released, providing the final round of confirmations.
What to Do With WL1βWL10
For WL1βWL5 in Sleeper or any class: relax. Keep the ticket, subscribe to WhatsApp alerts, and wait for confirmation β it almost certainly comes.
For WL6βWL10 in 3AC or 2AC on a premium train: monitor. Have a rough backup plan. If 5 days before departure it hasn't moved, consider Tatkal.
