IRCTC OTP Not Coming: How to Fix It

If your IRCTC OTP is not arriving, you are not alone. This is one of the most common issues during Tatkal booking rush hours when millions of users log in simultaneously. Here are 7 proven fixes.

Fix 1: Wait and Resend

SMS OTPs can get delayed by up to 2-3 minutes during peak hours. Wait 2 minutes, then click Resend OTP. Do not click resend too quickly as it invalidates the previous OTP.

Fix 2: Use Email OTP

IRCTC allows you to receive the OTP on your registered email address. Look for the "Get OTP on Email" option on the OTP screen. This is more reliable during peak traffic.

Fix 3: Check if DND is Active

If your mobile number has DND (Do Not Disturb) activated, promotional OTPs may be blocked. SMS OTPs from IRCTC are transactional and should not be blocked, but some carriers misclassify them. Contact your carrier to whitelist transactional SMS.

Fix 4: Check Spam/Junk Folder

If you are using email OTP, check your spam or junk folder. IRCTC transactional emails sometimes land there.

Fix 5: Use IRCTC Rail Connect App

The IRCTC Rail Connect mobile app has its own OTP system that can be faster than SMS during peak hours. Try booking through the app instead of the website.

Fix 6: Clear Browser Cache

Sometimes cached sessions cause OTP delivery failures. Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again from a fresh session.

Fix 7: Update Registered Mobile Number

If your registered mobile number is wrong or old, OTPs will never arrive. Log in using email, go to My Profile, and update your mobile number.

Once your ticket is booked, track PNR status and get WhatsApp confirmation alerts on PNR Alert.
