RAC and WL are both partial statuses — neither is a fully confirmed ticket. But the practical difference between them is enormous: RAC guarantees you can board the train; WL does not.

Can I travel with a WL ticket?

No — if your e-ticket is still WL after chart preparation, you cannot board the train. The ticket is automatically cancelled and refunded.

Can I travel with an RAC ticket?

Yes — RAC is always valid for boarding. You will share a side-lower berth with one other RAC passenger. The TTE may upgrade you to a full berth during the journey.

Can WL become RAC?

Yes. As confirmed passengers cancel before chart preparation, WL numbers move up. When enough cancellations happen, WL can move to RAC status before chart is finalized.

Can RAC become CNF?

Yes. RAC can upgrade to CNF before or during the journey when berths become available.
