When Does Premium Tatkal Make Sense?
Premium Tatkal is a last resort option when:
- Regular Tatkal (CK) is fully booked
- Your journey is urgent and no other train has seats
- You are booking early in the Tatkal window (prices are lower)
Avoid Premium Tatkal if you can wait for regular Tatkal or if the price has already spiked above 2x base fare.
How to Check Premium Tatkal Price Before Booking
- Log in to IRCTC and search for your train
- Look for the "PT" quota column (next to CK quota)
- Click on the PT fare to see the current dynamic price
- Compare with CK (regular Tatkal) โ if PT is significantly cheaper or CK is unavailable, book PT
