How to Reset IRCTC Password — Step by Step

  1. Go to irctc.co.in (or the IRCTC Rail Connect app)
  2. Click "Login" at the top right
  3. On the login screen, click "Forgot Password" below the password field
  4. Enter your IRCTC User ID
  5. Choose OTP method: Mobile OTP or Email OTP
  6. Enter the 6-digit OTP received on your phone or email
  7. Enter your new password and confirm it
  8. Click "Submit" — your password is now reset
  9. Return to the login page and log in with your new password

IRCTC Password Rules

Your new password must be:

  • 8–15 characters long
  • At least one UPPERCASE letter (A–Z)
  • At least one lowercase letter (a–z)
  • At least one number (0–9)
  • At least one special character: ! @ # $ % ^ & *
  • No spaces allowed

Example valid password: Train@2026! (meets all criteria)

What If Your Registered Mobile or Email Has Changed?

If you no longer have access to the registered mobile or email:

  • Call IRCTC Customer Care: 14646 (toll-free)
  • Email: care@irctc.co.in with your User ID, old mobile number, and a scanned copy of identity proof (Aadhaar/PAN)
  • IRCTC support will verify your identity and manually reset the account

I Forgot My IRCTC User ID Too

If you forgot your User ID:

  1. On the IRCTC login page, click "Forgot Username"
  2. Enter your registered email address
  3. IRCTC will email your User ID to that address
