Tatkal Charges: How Much Extra?

Tatkal premium is a fixed addition per 100 km, capped at a maximum per journey. Approximate maximums: Sleeper (SL): ₹10–₹15 per 100 km, max ₹200. 3AC: ₹30/100km, max ₹400. 2AC: ₹40/100km, max ₹500. 1AC: ₹50/100km, max ₹600. CC (Chair Car): ₹30/100km, max ₹225. Executive Chair (EC): ₹40/100km, max ₹300. Tatkal fares are on top of the base fare — total Tatkal ticket costs significantly more than advance booking.

Tips to Book Tatkal Fast

Speed is everything in Tatkal: 1) Create a Master List of passengers in IRCTC. 2) Enable UPI autofill or IRCTC iMudra wallet. 3) Avoid net banking — UPI/debit card is faster. 4) Use IRCTC Rail Connect app or irctc.co.in (not third-party sites during Tatkal opening). 5) Log in 5 minutes before 10 AM. 6) Keep the booking tab ready. 7) First, find available trains the night before; 8) Set an alarm for 9:57 AM.

Tatkal Limitations

Maximum 4 passengers per Tatkal PNR. No concession for Tatkal tickets (senior citizen, student, disability discounts don't apply). Tatkal cancellation charges are higher. Some trains do not have Tatkal quota (check availability on IRCTC). Tatkal quota has limited seats per train.
