Eligibility: Age Requirements
Male senior citizen: 60 years and above on date of travel. Female senior citizen: 58 years and above on date of travel. The age criterion applies individually — each passenger must qualify separately. There is no joint/couple concession rate.
Discount Amount
Male senior citizen: 40% discount on base fare. Female senior citizen: 50% discount on base fare. The discount applies only to base fare — reservation charges, superfast charges, and service charges are at full rate. For AC classes, the total saving is significant on long-distance journeys.
How to Claim the Concession
Online (IRCTC): During booking, tick 'Senior Citizen Concession' checkbox. The discounted fare is calculated automatically. At station counter: inform the booking clerk. Age proof is required if TTE asks onboard. Accepted ID: Aadhar Card, Passport, Voter ID, any government photo ID showing date of birth.

Senior citizen concession applies to: Sleeper (SL), 3AC (3A), 2AC (2A), First Class (FC), 1AC (1A), Chair Car (CC), and Executive Chair (EC).
