What Does Seat Availability Mean?

StatusWhat It MeansShould You Book?
AVAILABLE Confirmed seats are open. You will get a confirmed berth immediately on booking. Yes — book now before seats fill up

Seat Availability — Frequently Asked Questions

Use PNR Alert's Route Search — enter from station, to station, date, and class to see real-time seat availability across all trains on that route. No IRCTC login required.
AVAILABLE = confirmed seats open. RAC = share a berth, allowed to board. WL (Waitlist) = train is full, you get a number; if not confirmed by chart preparation, you get a full automatic refund. REGRET = no seats in any quota.
IRCTC opens bookings and availability data up to 60 days before departure (120 days for some Rajdhani trains). You can check seat availability for any date within this window.
Yes — completely free, no login, no registration. Just use PNR Alert's route search.
WL100 is very unlikely to confirm for most trains. As a general rule: GNWL under 20 (Rajdhani) or under 50 (Superfast) has a reasonable chance. Higher numbers depend on how far the journey date is. Use PNR Alert to monitor if you book a waitlisted ticket.
Tatkal availability is only shown on IRCTC from 10 AM (AC classes) or 11 AM (non-AC classes), 1 day before departure. Use PNR Alert's route search to see which trains have Tatkal seats available on those timings.
