What RAC 28 means
RAC 28 means you are at waitlist position 28 in the Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) pool. RAC guarantees boarding on a shared side-lower berth. Unlike WL, RAC passengers always travel. At this position, the confirmation rate is approximately 15–30% — rated Low.
RAC 28 probability by route and class
RAC 28 possible only on high-cancellation routes. This varies by route (busy metro routes like Delhi-Mumbai or Delhi-Kolkata have more cancellations), class (Sleeper class moves faster than AC classes because it has more seats), season (festival periods have fewer cancellations and lower confirmation rates), and how many days remain before chart preparation.
What to do now
You will board and share a berth for the journey. On Rajdhani and Duronto trains, TTEs upgrade RAC passengers frequently as confirmed passengers don't show up — so keep the ticket.
