Chart preparation is the moment your ticket status becomes final. After chart prep, WL is cancelled and RAC/CNF gets berth numbers. Here is exactly when it happens today.

When exactly is chart prepared today?
The first chart is prepared approximately 4-6 hours before the train's scheduled departure from its originating station — not your boarding station. A second chart may be prepared 1-2 hours before departure. Check the train's source station departure time and subtract 4-6 hours to estimate chart preparation time for today.
What changes after chart preparation today?
After chart prep: All WL tickets are auto-cancelled (refund initiated). RAC passengers get a half-berth allocated (berth number appears in PNR). CNF passengers get their exact coach and berth number. The seat map is locked — no new bookings possible. Your PNR status will show 'Chart Prepared' as a prefix.
What if chart is already prepared — what now?
Check your PNR status immediately on PNR Alert. If CNF: note your coach and berth number. If RAC: board the train and ask TTE for upgrade (possible if another passenger doesn't board). If WL: do not go to station — ticket is cancelled. If you see 'Can Not Be Shown' — chart not yet prepared.

Does chart preparation time change from the schedule?The chart is prepared relative to the train's scheduled origin departure — not actual departure. Even if the train is delayed, chart preparation still happens at the scheduled time, approximately 4-6 hours before scheduled origin departure.
Where can I check if chart is prepared for my train?Enter your PNR on PNR Alert — the status will show 'Chart Prepared' once finalized. Alternatively, check IRCTC or NTES. PNR Alert sends a WhatsApp notification at the moment chart status changes.
Can anything change after chart preparation?Once chart is prepared, WL cancellation stops and refunds are initiated. However, a TTE can make manual adjustments onboard for RAC upgrades or no-shows. Final berth may still shift slightly onboard.
