Jammu & Kashmir's railway connectivity is undergoing a historic transformation. Jammu Tawi (JAT) is the existing terminus for trains from Delhi, Mumbai, and other major cities. The Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) — including the world's highest railway bridge (Chenab Bridge, 359 m) — is under construction. Once complete, trains will run to the Kashmir Valley for the first time.

Can trains reach Srinagar?
Not yet by regular long-distance trains. The Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) is under construction. Banihal–Qazigund section (Kashmir Valley side) is already operational for local trains. Full connectivity to Srinagar is expected in the coming years after the Chenab Bridge section is complete.
What is the Vaishno Devi railway station?
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) is the dedicated railhead for Vaishno Devi pilgrims — 2 km from the base camp. All major Vaishno Devi trains terminate at Katra. Jammu Tawi (JAT) is the fallback if Katra trains are full (42 km from Katra by road).
